Sariah's just been keeping us on our toes this week.

First it was the spoon--"I can do it myself!"

Then it was learning how to climb anything and everything.

And then Mom decided Baby Girl needs to be able to see out from under her bangs, like so.
Seven kids. One hardworking daddy. One mother-in-law. One dog. One crazy mama.

with Stacy, Lena, Miranda, and Sally. I gave them about 12 hours over the last 2 days with their Easy Bake Ovens, and it eventually turned into this hilarious TV show. I think I need to restock my pantry. I've mopped my floor once, but it might need another round of soap.
This was supposed to be a picture of Caleb's dandy new haircut, which was accomplished in less than 10 minutes, by the way. But Caleb has been feeling ... oppositional (diplomatically speaking) ... today, so he had to break the mold somehow. I personally prefer the haircut rather than the snake--there's something so satisfying about running your hand over freshly buzzed hair, and something so infinitely unsatisfying in rubber snakes, or any kind of snake for that matter. Makes my toes curl just thinking about it.

She was so proud of herself, and of course we all clapped, which delighted her even more, so she clapped for herself so enthusiastically that down she went. Kerploppus!

We have been waiting and waiting for the inevitable to happen.... Hannah went to her well-child appointment today, and measured 53.5 inches tall. That makes her, as you can see, less than an inch taller than Elisabeth ... and Elisabeth says Hannah tried to make her lose her balance in this picture, which would make her appear shorter. Ah, sisterly love, support and encouragement for one another! Bob even says that when he takes the girls places, people have asked if they are twins. I halfway feel sorry for Hannah, but she seems to take it all in stride with a good-natured laugh. I guess she's not the shortest 11-year-old in the world--she still made it all the way up to the 13th percentile for height!
But it's not just about boys. It's about girls, too. Look here--it's the future of IT. Bob is so proud.
Rex's accomplishment for this week was climbing trees. Once I investigated, however, I learned that this is not really a new accomplishment. It's just that Mom has become aware of this accomplishment. No, I didn't ask how long this has been possible. I prefer to believe that he's just been climbing the redbud tree and not this huge silver maple on a regular basis. Denial can be a lovely thing sometimes.
And MY FAVORITE NEWS OF ALL FOR THE DAY?!?!?!? Yes, at long last, I was sustained to a new calling today at church. I've been the Relief Society secretary for almost 3 years, and when they called a new Relief Society President a month or two back, they failed to release me from being the secretary. My service as RS secretary has had many high points, and I have learned much. But it felt like it was dragging on forever. I don't know how bishops and stake presidents serve for so many years at a time. Anyhow, the poor Bishop probably didn't know what to make of me when I actually applauded his extension of my call to nursery. I've never been so thrilled to get a calling. Snack time and toys, here I come!

And it's even posed strikingly, like a cowboy hero or a white knight or ... or a swimsuit model or something. JSYK, I snapped this pic 3 times, and every time, she threw up her arm. Now that I think about it, she must still be doing the Itsy Bitsy Spider (while trying to maintain her precarious balance, like Godzilla atop a tank). It might be time for a new song.

Contrary to popular belief, I do listen to your comments (even those not posted here), and so I am forced to modify my last post as follows to more accurately portray our outing: on Friday night, my Prince Charming and I spent a fabulous and fun-filled evening together. First, we attended the local theater for a smashing presentation of What Goes on in Vegas Stays in Vegas. Romantically, we held hands and talked and sent expensive text messages to our friends. We had a grand time laughing together. Afterwards, we went to an exotic foreign restaurant where we ate foods that I can't pronounce, but which were savory and appetite pleasing, including those donut-thingies.
Of course, I still miss those little paper placemats that show the Chinese zodiac. I guess our favorite Chinese restaurant from college in moving up in the world. You know which placemats I'm talking about--the ones that say that Bob was born in the Year of the Rat, nevermind that I was born in the Year of the Rabbit. I would ask what year my dear readers were born in, but I can pretty much tell that you are either a rat or a rabbit (Bob, Tiffany, Elisabeth). What I don't get is how a Rat and a Rabbit can produce: 1 Ox, 1 Rabbit, 1 Snake, 1 Horse, and 1 Pig. Now that's some interesting biology. But then again, this Rabbit had a Snake for a brother, and we were born to a Rat and an Ox. And Bob the Rat was born to a Dragon and a Snake. Complicated.
You know what else I don't get? If I'm a meek, timid, soft & fuzzy little rabbit in this zodiac, how did I get to be a bold, brave, and ferocious lion in the other one? Food for thought, that.
And last but not least, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!! to all the fathers in our lives. We spoiled our Daddy today. We celebrated by making him bake cinnamon rolls, empty the dishwasher, and leave for work. We love our Daddy. I'm sure you could tell. Someday, I'm going to get my act together and have a real Father's Day celebration so that he can really tell how much we appreciate him.
