Stake Conference Musings

So, I would like to say that during Stake Conference I was blissfully pondering great messages of spiritual uplift (which there were an abundance of), but um...I was busy being entertained.

I hereby give you ... what our children do during Stake Conference:

Princess

Once upon a time there was a dragon, a princess and a lazy couch potato who played Mario too much.  However, according to an ancient prophecy, this said couch potato had to save the princess.  But he preferred brunettes and the princess was blond so he went in search of a princess who had brown hair.  But this princess dyed her hair brown with a $2 bottle of dye from Walgreens in order to be saved by--er--"Prince Charming."  The couch potato arrived and said "Let's go swimming," but the princess's hair dye had not set so it started coming out in the water but she didn't notice and kept swimming.  Soon all the dye was out and she was a blonde again.  So the couch potato said, "You're ugly with yellow hair," and left.

The princess then decided to get even on the couch potato by destroying his Mario games.  But unfortunately, she was Princess Peach and so they died.

Today's Writing Prompt: Book

Write about a book you were given as a gift, or a book you gave as a gift.

I was given the best book I've ever received, the best gift I've ever received, on my 7th birthday.  It was a dictionary, and not a picture dictionary or a child's dictionary or a student dictionary.  A real dictionary.

And thus began my love affair with words, reading, and writing.

It is now a rather battered volume, the dust jacket long since crinkled, torn, and disposed of.  Some of the terms in this particular dictionary are obsolete, and it certainly doesn't contain current words and phrases like (de)friending, email, internet, global warming, or politically correct.  However, I still reference it as needed.

Several times I have considered giving it away or throwing it away.  I have purchased~~and use regularly~~a new, up-to-date replacement.  But the old blue dictionary with the gold lettering is a treasured and true friend, and I cannot bear to part with it.

Music

Never underestimate the power of music to change your mood, your frame of mind, your life.  Went to an awesome Christmas concert tonight.  Hannah, Lizzi, and Caleb were in two of the choirs that participated.  That topped off a day when I heard some of my favorite Christmas songs.  What are your favorites?  I'm going to post my tops tomorrow.  :)
